The OneNine5 story on the Sky News Daily Climate Show
Did you see OneNine5 on Sky News? We were very proud and excited to feature on the Sky News Daily Climate Show last week. The Daily Climate Show investigates how global warming is changing our landscape and the stories of businesses and people taking positive actions. We had the chance to tell the story of OneNine5 and share our founding mission to tackle the single-use plastic problem at airports.
Our founder, Alex launched OneNine5 combining passion and circumstance. Following major bowel surgery and a six month recovery, Alex spent that period of recovery, developing the idea of OneNine5 with an initial aim to redesign the wash bag for modern travel. The passion was sparked from Sunday evenings spent watching the BBC's Blue Planet II. Like most people Alex was unaware of the plastic problem before learning from the great Sir David Attenborough. After reading and learning more from ocean advocate, Emily Penn and journalist, Lucy Siegle, he felt compelled to try and make a positive change.
Have you ever wondered why our award-winning wash bag features a clear and reusable pouch? Before the pandemic and the impact on the global travel industry, we estimated that over 150 million of single-use clear plastic bags were distributed at UK airports, every year. To help tackle this plastic problem, we designed our Eco-Conscious Wash Bag to incorporate a pouch that detaches from inside the toiletry bag using easy release magnets. The reusable pouch is made from a recyclable TPU, that is designed to airport security standards, to carry your liquids and cosmetics on a flight.
Research suggests that we have got really good at switching from single-use plastics in our daily routine, with things like reusable coffee cups, water bottles and bags-for-life on a trip the supermarket. Yet, maintaining that routine when travelling is more difficult and we've made it our mission to help you with those eco-friendly switches to turn your travel plans, green.
